Extension update, format customization

December 13, 2024 at 8:26 PM

Hello!

This week was my finals week, meaning I'll start working on some bigger features that I didn't want to commit time to before my break. Here is what I got done this week.

Extension overhaul

The Whenplane Extension has gotten an internal overhaul, which should make it easier to add more features in the future.

Along with this overhaul, it has a new feature that allows you to use The WAN Show Search from the omnibar (the bar at the top that lets you search or see the website you are at).
To use this, start typing @wan, and the extension will automatically take over. This does not affect your default search engine. Note that the @wan needs to be at the beginning of your search query for it to work. It should show "The WAN Show search" text to show it is working.

If you are on Chrome, you may have gotten a warning that whenplane wants to change your search settings. Note that this does not change your default search engine. It only adds Whenplane to search when you use the @wan keyword.

Time and Date customization

Before this update, Whenplane would use the time and date format from your browser's locale to format dates and times. After someone very passionate about time and date formats joined my discord, I have decided to allow you to override your locale if you would like.

These new preferences are on the bottom of the about page (with the other preferences). The default is auto which will have the same behaviour as before.

Some smaller changes

There have also been some smaller changes over this week, including some layout fixes for mobile and some minor search usability enhancements.

As always, if you have any issues, suggestions, or other feedback, please let me know!
